1st and 2nd Shift positions available. 1st shift is M-F. 2nd shift is M-Th with a 10% shift differential.
The CNC Machine programmer/operator position typically requires the ability to follow written instructions and read blueprint specifications or equivalent. The individual programs and operates semi-automatic or automatic numerically controlled machine tools to perform a series of progressive machining operations on repetitive work to close and exacting tolerances and finish specifications requiring considerable skill. The CNC Machinist operates CNC Machines and machining centers to fabricate precision parts per engineering specifications. This position works from setup instructions, defining and coding tool arrangement, material clamping methods and console settings for grinding operations. The individual is required to check parts for conformance to specifications.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
SAFETY:
- Ensure that all company Safety Policies are being followed in all work performed on equipment or buildings.
- Follow Log Out / Tag Out procedures and utilize proper Personal Protective Equipment at all times; is current with all required company annual trainings.
- Offer recommendations for enhanced safety measures and equipment to the Safety Committee.
MAIN DUTIES:
- Program and operate custom CNC grinding machines as well as utilize other shop tools such as pedestal grinders and various hand tools.
- Set controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth and angle of cut, or enter commands to retrieve and input computerized machine control media.
- Use tools such as edge finders, indicators and probes to find machine work offsets.
- Load parts in machine, cycle the machine, and detect malfunctions in machine operations such as worn or damaged grinding wheels; inform of discrepancies.
- Read, understand, and interpret engineering and manufacturing drawings with working knowledge of GD&T, producing quality parts that meet the specifications.
- Verify conformance of finished work piece to print specifications using standard measuring tools.
- Accurately complete parts per job standard and ensure part count and data entry is correct.
- Assist with final build and assembly of custom designed equipment per engineering drawings.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma/GED or graduation from a certified technical school, or proven work history in a production environment, with five (5) or more years related experience.
- CNC programming experience.
- Strong mechanical ability.
- Must be able to read and interpret drawings, follow job routers, use math to perform basic calculations, and use basic hand held measuring tools.
- Able to accomplish tasks and follow directions without deviation from procedures.
- Must be highly motivated and able to work independently.
- Able to solve routine problems with minimal supervision and demonstrates advanced problem-solving ability.
- Detail oriented, self-motivated individual with excellent organizational skills.

- Must have working command of the English language and be able to communicate orally and in writing (basic oral instructions, simple written memos and instructions).

Work Environment and Physical Requirements
The work environment of this position is generally performed in an indoor environment in a well-lit area. This position is required to work around high-speed machinery and equipment which requires the use of safety glasses. There is exposure to machine oil, metal filings, manufacturing odors and noise. Job functions on and around mechanized equipment will present the need for alertness, accuracy, and safety awareness. Safety training is required and provided by the company in accordance with applicable law, industry standards and company policy. Specific notice is posted in areas where safety equipment is required for accident prevention.

Candidates must be able to read, write and communicate fluently in English. Candidates must stand for much of the workday. Work activities can involve combinations of standing, lifting, walking, carrying, pushing, pulling, bending and/or climbing for extended periods and performing repetitive activities. Work requires the ability to see (with or without corrective lenses), hear and smell in order to detect problems. The work requires the ability to lift repeatedly and carry up to 50 pounds. Must be able to use a hammer for smithing repeatedly and for an extended amount of time.
