General Purpose of the Job |
The Director of Cyclotron Services is a senior position responsible for oversight of the Cyclotron Engineering and Cyclotron Engineering Support functions, which help to maintain and improve all SOFIE manufacturing activities.The Director must have advanced experience in particle accelerator technology, must have knowledge in radiopharmaceutical manufacturing operations, and experience in project management.The position will supervise the daily aspects of the Cyclotron Operations and Cyclotron Engineering section management. The director will also oversee and participate in the development and implementation of projects assigned to the engineering section, some which may pertain and/or overlap with other sections such as construction production, etc. This individual must have strong decision-making techniques, communication skills, and must be willing to travel to all of the SOFIE manufacturing sites.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities |
- Oversee the design and manufacture of innovative equipment to improve manufacturing reliability / productivity.
- Facilitate new facility equipment installations
- Integrate new IBA start-ups/acquisitions into standard IBA cyclotron maintenance and operation programs.
- Coordinate with site PIC for Engineers and/or schedule existing Engineers to be on location as necessary.
- Facilitate on site engineering projects
- Arbitrate escalated cyclotron employee issues
- Facilitate employee reviews with support from HR, GM and Management.
- Ensure cost and quality procurement of custom made parts.
- Support R&D projects.
- Ensure that cyclotrons are run according to proper operating procedures
- Perform and lead cyclotron work teams in routine and emergency cyclotron repair activities.
- Ensure completion of documentation related to cyclotron operations
- Take an active roll in planning accelerator maintenance activities and dose management
- Shift and weekend work may be required
- Provide after hours on call support, as necessary.
- Work on programs and systems to help reduce occupational exposure to ionizing radiation.
- Provide information to supervisors regarding equipment operation and status.
- Perform radiation safety evaluations to assure compliance with all regulations
- Design and build equipment to improve operational reliability for cyclotron & isotope mfg.
- Assure compliance with all procedures, regulations, organizations, etc
- Department technical training
- Trend analysis and tracking of cyclotron performance data
- Preparation and submission of capital equipment requests
- Provide cyclotron operation coverage when required by schedule
- Demonstrates a commitment to safety and quality
- Initiate and organize work activities to improve results or activities.
- Develops and maintains relationships with people at all levels including superiors, subordinates, customers, vendors and workplace peers.

Supervisory Responsibilities |
There are not any direct supervisory responsibilities for personnel in this position, however, this position is responsible for the management of all cyclotron production in each facility.Ensures proper staffing, training, etc. on a daily basis.
Education and/or Experience |
·8-10 years of cyclotron experience.
·Must be able to read, write, and speak English.
·Associates Degree or equivalent in a Technical Discipline; either electronic or mechanical(preferred 5 – 8 years of electronic trouble shooting experience).
·Advanced working knowledge of digital and analog circuitry associated with accelerator operations.
·Ability to trouble shoot electronics down to the component level
·Understands detailed theory of operation for most accelerator systems.
·Ability to read and interpret accelerator mechanical and electrical drawing.
·Operate basic electronic test equipment, multimeters, oscilloscope, and network analyzers, etc. and demonstrate the ability to learn the operation any other tools and diagnostics as necessary.
·Experience with mechanical tools used in accelerator maintenance.
·Working knowledge of project management techniques.
·Experienced in diagnosis and repair of equipment failures associated with accelerators.
·Knowledge of radiation field survey meters.
·High voltage training.
·Lock-out Tag out training.
·Knowledge of basic cGMP practices and procedures.
·Experience with AutoCad.
Language Skills |
Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals.Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers and the general public.
Mathematical Skills |
Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations.Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distributions, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory and factor analysis.
Reasoning Ability |
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
Computer Skills |
