Work Arrangement: Hybrid Weekly out of Chicago
SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
Protect the fiduciary interests of the Corporation through collection efforts, and prompt investigation and administrative handling of personal injury and property damage claims brought by passengers, employees and others.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Thoroughly investigates liability and damage aspects of accidents/incidents involving reports of personal injury and property damage.
• Establishes appropriate liability accruals/reserves and assures the claims database is accurate and current.
• Makes contact with claimants promptly, provides assistance, and monitors medical treatment. • Evaluates claims/lawsuits with respect to liability and damages to determine corporate exposure.
• Accomplishes the fair and equitable disposition of claims and lawsuits by negotiating settlements with claimants and opposing counsel.
• Assists outside counsel in prosecution/defense of lawsuits filed by and against Amtrak.
• Must have access to reliable transportation to fulfill work requirements, such as travel to accident and training sites, court appearances, etc.
• Travels within and outside of assigned territory.
• Responds to accident sites, as needed, during the day, evening and night, to include participation with Amtrak’s Incident Response Team.
• Perform duties in office and non-office settings (including administrative duties, attendance at trainings, conferences, visits to courthouses and attorney offices, visits to shops, facilities and other Amtrak offices).
• Occasional work away from home, weekends, holidays, odd days and/or shifts may be required.
• Maintains liaison with other departments to ensure effective communication and complete cooperation on claims related matters.
• Ability to exercise discretion while working and communicating in confidential settings with sensitive information.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
The successful candidate for this position must have:
• Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent work experience.
• Three (3) years’ experience in investigation, personal injury claims and litigated claims. • Ability to negotiate effectively with claimants, attorneys and involved stakeholders.
• Ability to attend and pass required training to include RWP training and Claims School.
MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
The successful candidate for this position must have:
• Excellent interpersonal skills.
• Demonstrated organizational skills. • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to proficiently use Microsoft Office 365 Suite.
• Familiarity with medical terminology in managing litigation
• And must be a team player, able to work under stress and maintain professional composure.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• 5+ years’ experience in investigation, personal injury claims and litigated claims.
• Railroad claims investigation and negotiation experience.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Physical Demands:
• Interior and external work (including office work, visiting shops and facilities, courthouses and attorney offices) and working in field environment outside with varying weather, noise levels and lighting conditions and uneven walking surfaces including ballast.

• Communicates, comprehends, and responds to statements and instructions, both orally and in writing.
• Frequently learns new knowledge, skills and tasks, both complex and simple, in order to maintain effectiveness in position.
Working Conditions:
• Must have good visual acuity and hearing capability sufficient to perform the essential functions of the job unless other vision or hearing standards are required.
• Must be able to lift, carry, push or pull loads in accordance with applicable standards.
• Will be required to bend, stoop, stand and climb in performing daily tasks and activities.
COMMUNICATIONS AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:
Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
PAY TRANSPARENCY:
The salary/hourly range is $78,600 - $101,844. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, internal equity, etc. Depending on an employee’s assigned worksite or location, Amtrak may consider a geo-pay differential to be applied to the employee’s base salary. Amtrak may offer additional incentive and pay programs to recognize and reward our employees, including a short-term incentive bonus based upon factors such as individual and company performance that is commensurate with the level of the position and/or long-term incentive plan compensation.
