Description
Under the direction of the Supportive Day Coordinator, provide hands-on assistance to senior citizens during daily program and living activities such as walking, eating, grooming and personal care, following established methods and procedures.
Responsibilities
Essential Functions
Assist with the arrival and departure of day care clients. Help hang up coats and put away personal belongings in lockers,
Assist with planned social and other activities. Lead group participation in the daily physical and exercise program. Take participants for walks, to plays and other social outings. Setup, organize and lead individual games (checkers, parchesi, cards, bowling, golf and such) and other activities including gardening, art, reading and story telling; discussion groups and other participatory functions.
Encourage participation in programs according to individual or group needs, capabilities and interests of program participants and observe individual (inter)actions.
Provide encouragement, stimulation and emotional support to program participants.
Assist with morning and afternoon snacks and noon meal.
Teach safety consciousness.
Maintain daily journal and photo album.
Work with other staff to provide a safe, comfortable and supportive environment in all other activities necessary for the smooth operation of the program.
Perform related duties as required.
Qualifications
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
Ability to exert periodic physical effort required to assist wheelchair-bound and otherwise frail elders.
Ability to communicate well with seniors and their families and help create a supportive and safe environment for seniors.
Education and Experience
Duties require High School diploma or equivalent; one year work experience in a social services agency; or any equivalent combination of education or experience. Bachelor degree preferred. Must have valid driver's license.

Physical Environment
Normal office environment, not subject to extremes in temperature, noise odors, etc.
Regular interruptions to assist seniors as they arrive and depart.
May involve attendance at evening or weekend meetings or special events.
