GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The purpose of this position is to work with the general public, development community, and elected and appointed officials regarding land use policies, regulations, and zoning. Responsible for maintaining accurate knowledge of adopted codes and regulations so as to review projects and provide advice to the communities listed above. This position serves in a shared planner role to provide technical planning and development assistance, including but not limited to research, administrative assistance, preparation and presentation of rezoning and Board of Zoning appeals requests, and other planning and administrative functions as determined on the basis of staff availability, expertise and assignment by supervisor. This role may serve as acting director in absence of Planning Director.

- Provides general zoning administration and presentations to public, elected, and appointed officials.
- Addresses and reviews citizen complaints and concerns.
- Coordinates and maintains development software for tracking projects.
- Reviews and approves developments applications.
- Performs field inspections and zoning code enforcement, as assigned.
- Develops plans and policies regarding land use.
- Performs specialized administrative, clerical or technical duties including website maintenance and coordinating/maintaining development software for tracking projects.
- Attends staff, committee, and county council meetings, as required. Provides staff support to County Boards and Commissions.
- Prepares, types, copies, files, processes, mails and/or transmits various documents, such as forms, correspondence, memos, reports, purchase orders, meeting minutes, legal documents, notices, etc.
- Attends training, meetings, seminars and/or workshops to enhance job knowledge and skills.
- Provides administrative support to the assigned supervisor, performing such duties as scheduling and coordinating meetings and appointments, compiling data for reports and studies, composing and/or preparing routine and confidential reports and correspondence.
- Receives and responds to inquiries, requests for assistance and concerns from other County departments, agencies, organizations, professionals and the public; assists supervisor in coordinating administrative functions activities with those of other departments and agencies as appropriate.
- Works on special projects, as needed.
- Serves as a member of various staff committees, as assigned.
- Reviews requests for proposals, as requested.
- Helps organize and facilitate the design of applications and forms to be used by the developing community and general public in interaction Planning department.
- Assists with the development of grants with the assistance of other county departments.
- Performs other related duties as assigned
Requirements:
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of adopted and proposed ordinances and codes.
Knowledge of permitting and mapping software.
Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite software products; ESRI ArcGIS software products; and Adobe Photoshop (or similar) graphics software.
Customer service skills.
Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
General clerical and organizational skills.
Ability to use critical thinking skills in the interpretation of County adopted codes and regulations.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
High School Diploma or equivalent degree in a related field, and one (1) year of planning or related work experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Some college is preferred.
LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, OR REGISTRATIONS:
Required: None.
Preferred: American Institute of Certified Planners, American Planning Association. Certified Floodplains Manager, Association of State Floodplain Managers.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The work is sedentary work which requires exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
