THIS IS A RELOCATION TO MONTANA
The Control Room Operator Trainee must possess a proven knowledge of steam plant systems and scrubber operations and demonstrate ability to learn the main control board operating procedures and logic and work toward being able to relieve the Control Room Operator during his absence. In addition, a Control Room Operator Trainee must have the ability to perform the job duties of the Journeyman System Operator. This includes the ability to operate individual systems in the plant to support unit operation during normal operating conditions, start-ups and shutdowns. Extensive knowledge of all systems is required for operating and monitoring systems and accurately troubleshooting and diagnosing problems for fast, efficient maintenance work. Special projects such as testing and clearance work will also be required. A CROT is expected to complete the training program, and complete the hours and testing required to become a Control Room Operator within one year. This job description is not meant to be all-inclusive and will include other reasonable work expectations as assigned.
Essential Job Functions
- Relieve Control Room Operator on the Main Control Board when necessary.
- Ability to replace the JSO in the Plant when necessary.
- Must maintain an assigned cleaning area and assist in general plant clean-up.
- Train or assist in training apprentices and JIT's.
- Help maintenance personnel troubleshoot and solve problems.
- Perform maintenance activities when assigned.
- Maintain accurate record keeping (readings and log sheets)
- Must have a good understanding of clearance process.
- Complete all training as assigned by Technical Training and the Operations Department, including training on the simulator, classroom, and on the job training.
- Walk down both boilers and become adept at analyzing boiler firing conditions.
- Must work toward attainment of 1st Class Boiler License from the State of Montana within first 6 months.
- Work and function well on rotating 12-hour shifts, or dayshifts as assigned.
- Regular attendance and diligent work habits required
Basic Qualifications
- High School Diploma/GED
- Must have completed the Journeyman System Operator (JSO) requirements; Minimum 3 years power plant experience, or equivalent heavy industrial operations experience; or Completion of a formal coal-fired power plant apprenticeship/training program with a minimum of 6000 hours of on the job training.
- Must have current State of Montana 1st Class Boiler License or be able to obtain in the 1st six months.
- Must have basic computer skills.
License or Certificate Requirements:
- Valid Drivers' License
- Passed or be able to pass the PPL Skilled Trades Testing/EEI MASS testing.
- Must pass the associated knowledge test, written and/or practical.
