The City of Kettering’s Income Tax Division, within the Finance Department, is recruiting to fill the Full-time positions of Finance Technician I and Finance Technician II. Both positions perform various technical, income tax, and record keeping duties in support of the City's income tax operation in a fast-paced “teamwork” environment. Both position classifications are in the Non-competitive Classified Civil Service and work under the general supervision of the Tax Administrator.
QUALIFICATIONS:
The Finance Technician I-Tax position reviews withholding returns and wage-only individual income tax returns and communicates with taxpayers, tax preparers and payroll services on a regular basis. The ideal applicant will have a strong working knowledge of taxation methods, terminology and principles and procedures, particularly municipal withholding tax and familiarity with IRS Form W-2 reporting. This position requires technical aptitude of the principles and practices relating to municipal income tax along with the ability to apply this knowledge to work products. General tax and/or payroll experience and background is required. A degree in Accounting or a related field is preferred or any equivalent combination of experience and training which demonstrates the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform increasingly complex accounting or tax work in the governmental environment.
The Finance Technician II-Tax position applies the principles and practices of municipal taxation to ensure compliance with the legal requirements of the Kettering Income Tax Code and Ohio Revised Code Chapter 718. A strong working knowledge and technical aptitude of taxation and accounting methods, terminology, principles, and procedures is required, along with the ability to apply this knowledge to work products. Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to deal effectively with the general public and City staff are required. The employee must be highly skilled in the use of computers and related software programs. The Finance Technician II-Tax is an integral member of the Finance team and must be a self-starter, requiring minimal supervision to complete assigned tasks. Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related degree with a record of directly related experience is required. Some experience in accounting and/or tax or any equivalent combination of experience and training which demonstrates the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform increasingly complex accounting work in the governmental environment is preferred.
COMPENSATION:
Finance Technician I pay range of $22.91 ($47,653/annually) to $32.65/hr. ($67,912 annually)
Finance Technician II pay range of $29.43/hr. ($61,214 annually) to $37.66/hr. ($78,333 annually), both contingent upon the candidate’s related skills, knowledge, and abilities.
