Job Description
The Corporate Safety team seeks an experienced Process Safety Manager to lead process safety management. The ideal candidate will have operations and engineering experience managing process safety programs, a strong background in high-hazard petrochemical environments, and a commitment to fostering safety culture through leadership. You will develop, implement, and maintain all elements of a comprehensive Process Safety Management program, ensure compliance with regulatory standards, and drive process safety culture throughout a matrix organization and across multiple business units.
Responsibilities- Maintain compliance with OSHA's Process Safety Management (PSM) and EPA's Risk Management Plan (RMP) standards.
- Work with consultants to facilitate process hazard analyses (PHA) and layers of protection analyses (LOPA).
- Facilitate pre-start-up safety reviews (PSSR) and management of change (MOC).
- Apply root cause analysis (RCA) and failure modes and effects analysis (FMEA) to investigate and prevent the recurrence of unwanted incidents.
- Facilitate internal audits to verify compliance with PSM/RMP requirements, identify gaps, document findings, and propose corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Participate in OSHA and EPA compliance inspections to ensure that any nonconformities are addressed with robust corrective action to prevent recurrence.
- Support the operations, technical, training, and safety departments in developing and improving process safety initiatives, including operating procedures, training programs for operators, maintaining accurate process safety information, enhancing the mechanical integrity program, and managing changes to the covered process.
- Become an effective member of the corporate safety team, providing support, knowledge, and expertise for all businesses around the globe.
Experience- Minimum of ten years of professional experience in the petrochemical refining sector and at least five years leading process safety initiatives to minimize safety, environmental, and business risks in an operating facility.
- Direct involvement in hazard analysis, incident investigations, and change management.
- Experience with risk assessment software, including Sphera preferred.
Qualifications- Bachelor's degree in chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, safety engineering, or related technical discipline.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to communicate effectively across various organizational levels, including interfacing with and directing contractors.
- Extensive knowledge of process safety management as defined by OSHA PSM and EPA RMP standards.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect and analyze data to develop strategic and tactical plans.
- Excellent planning and organizational skills to prioritize and manage multiple tasks effectively.
- Advanced Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, PowerPoint, and SharePoint capabilities.
- Relevant certifications (e.g., CSP, CCPSC) are a plus.
Physical Demands- Lift and carry up to 50 pounds on an occasional basis.
- The ability to climb tank stairs and ladders, navigate uneven outdoor surfaces, and enter confined spaces.
- Ability to drive and fly to conferences and meetings domestically.
- Willingness to work unusual hours, including occasional nights and weekends, when needed.
