Job Overview: We are looking for an experienced and motivated Legal Assistant to support our attorneys in disability law. The ideal candidate will have prior experience in intake management and case management within a law firm, preferably in disability law or related fields. The Legal Assistant will serve as the first point of contact for potential clients, handle case management, and provide essential administrative support to ensure the efficient operation of the firm.
Key Responsibilities:
Intake Specialist:
- Conduct initial client intakes, assess eligibility for disability benefits, and gather necessary documentation.
- Provide a welcoming, supportive environment for clients and answer inquiries regarding their cases.
- Screen potential clients, explain our services, and gather relevant medical, legal, and personal information for case evaluation.
- Coordinate and schedule consultations with attorneys.
Case Management:
- Manage case files from initial intake through resolution, ensuring that all information and documents are accurate and up to date.
- Maintain communication with clients to provide status updates and ensure that they are informed throughout the case.
- Assist attorneys with preparing case-related documents, forms, and correspondence.
- Prepare and file necessary paperwork, including applications, appeals, and legal motions.
- Coordinate and schedule appointments with medical professionals, experts, and other necessary parties.
Administrative Support:
- Organize and maintain client files, both physical and electronic, ensuring compliance with confidentiality and privacy standards.
- Perform general office duties such as filing, faxing, and organizing correspondence.
- Assist with billing and time tracking as needed.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 2-3 years of experience as a Legal Assistant, Intake Specialist, or Case Manager, preferably in disability law or related fields.
- Familiarity with Social Security Disability (SSD), Supplemental Security Income (SSI), or Workers' Compensation claims is a strong plus.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact with clients in a compassionate and professional manner.
- Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and legal case management software.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical and legal standards.
- A proactive and positive attitude with a strong work ethic and the ability to work well both independently and as part of a team.
