Job Description:
The Learning Commons at the University at Albany seeks to hire a Supplemental Instruction (SI) Coordinator. The SI program facilitates student learning in historically difficult courses through small group sessions led by undergraduate peer educators, or SI Leaders. In this position, the SI Coordinator will support implementation and assessment of SI, and exercise regular and ongoing decision-making about the daily operations of the program. This position will work closely with the STEM Tutor Coordinator and the Tutor Coordinator to ensure a full slate of offerings provided by the Learning Commons.
The Learning Commons at the University at Albany is a dynamic environment that supports student success and is a central hub for a wide range of academic success programming. These include Enrichment Programs, Online Tutoring, Supplemental Instruction (SI), peer tutoring, STEM Tutoring (UUNI 90), UUNI-350: Peer Tutor Training, UUNI-498: STEM Tutor Training, study strategies, learning resources, information, and referral.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Operational Management
- Oversee day-to-day operations of the SI Program
- Schedule SI sessions and monitor attendance
- Track the program's budget and work with Business Manager to hire SI leaders
- Contribute to the development of marketing materials
- Assessment and Strategic Planning
- Collect and analyze data to compile reports for program assessment, including quarterly, annual, and ad hoc reporting documents
- Engage in strategic planning with the Director and contribute to strategic planning for the Learning Commons
- Program Collaboration and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Efforts
- Collaborate with Learning Commons colleagues on current academic support programs and initiatives
- Expand and enhance cultural competency and diversity efforts in the SI program, Learning Commons, and the University
- Coordination and Supervision of SI Leaders
- Recruit, train, and coordinate SI leaders
- Create content and lead professional development meetings for SI leaders
- Monitor SI leader's engagement with the course, faculty, and session planning
- Conduct SI leader observations and debriefs
- Provide regular, timely feedback on SI leader performance
- Provide leadership, oversight, and direction to SI leaders to assure goals, programs, activities, and personnel practices are consistent with and contribute to the University's goals and strategies
- Track student employee attendance and approve time records
- Outreach
- Represent the SI program to the broader campus community including meeting regularly with participating faculty
- Give in-class presentations about the SI program
- Represent the SI program and the Learning Commons at University events
- Other reasonable duties as assigned.
Functional and Supervisory Relationships:
- Reports to the Director of the Learning Commons and HHMI STEM
- Supervises the following positions: Undergraduate SI Leaders
Job Requirements:
- Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize competing demands
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of the Learning Commons team
- Demonstrated experience and ability to collaborate constructively with campus partners and stakeholders, including undergraduates, graduate students, lecturers, faculty, and staff.
- Familiarity with the Supplemental Instruction model
- Knowledge of evidence-based teaching practices including collaborative learning techniques, learning theories, and study strategies applicable to a college environment.
- Demonstrated experience and ability to hire, train, supervise, and evaluate undergraduate students
- Excellent organizational and analytical skills
- Strong written and oral communication skills and attention to detail
Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications:
- Master's degree in a related field or Bachelor's degree in a related field from a college or University accredited by the US Department of Education or internationally recognized accrediting organization with 2 or more years of relevant professional experience
- Experience hiring, training, supervising, and evaluating student employees
- Experience in developing and implementing successful student programs
- Experience conducting assessments and using data for decision-making and planning
- Experience collaborating with faculty and campus partners
- A demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity, equity, and inclusion
- Applicants must demonstrate an ability to develop inclusive and equitable relationships within our diverse campus community
- Applicants must demonstrate an ability to support diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and belonging relative to their role
Preferred Qualifications:
- At least 2 years of relevant experience in peer education program development or coordination in an institution of higher education
- Experience providing training and professional development using facilitative pedagogy
- Experience engaging in strategic planning for a unit or program
- Experience working with a diverse student population
Working Environment:
- Typical office environment
- On-campus mobility, self-propelled or assisted
- Occasionally lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 25 pounds

Professional Rank and Salary Grade: SL-3, $56,000-$59,000
