Job Description: The Assistant Athletic Trainer is responsible for providing assistance to the Athletic Training Staff in all aspects an intercollegiate athletic training program.
Education of Athletes
- Discern, evaluate and communicate risk associated with participation in athletics.
Evaluation and Treatment of Athletes
- Evaluate student-athlete injuries and conditions following standardized clinical practice in the area of diagnostic reasoning and medical decision making including pre-participation evaluation, on-field assessment, detailed evaluation in the clinical setting, and progress evaluation for rehabilitation and return to play determination.
- Provide standard immediate care procedures for emergency situations during event coverage.
- Determine appropriate treatment, rehabilitation and/or reconditioning strategies for the student-athlete population consistent with the clinical impression and by considering age-specific criteria and psychosocial, community, family and healthcare support system influences.
- Administer athletic training policies and procedures to ensure responsive and efficient operations, in accordance with the Board of Certification (BOC) Standards of Practice and NATA Code of Ethics including managing the athletic training inventory and supplies, maintaining comprehensive medical records, and making appropriate referrals.
- Demonstrate competent practice through compliance with ethical, legal, and other professional standards to maximize the quality of care and ensure that the needs of student-athletes requiring healthcare services can be addressed appropriately.
Additional Functions
- Assist with the supervision and education of the student first aid staff.
This is a 10-month full-time (40 hours) position with a starting salary of $60,000.
Job Requirements:- Bachelor's degree in a sports-related discipline.
- Certification as an Athletic Trainer (AT) by the Board of Certification, in good standing.
- Licensed, or eligible for licensure under the Department of Health for the State of Rhode Island.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to function in a service- and team-oriented environment.
- Ability to function independently, display strong attention to detail, work under pressure, meet deadlines and prioritize multiple projects.
- Ability to travel as required.
- Must have a valid driver's license.
- Ability to work on nights, weekend and some holidays as requested.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's Degree from a curriculum athletic training program.
At the University's discretion, the education and experience prerequisites may be accepted where the candidate can demonstrate, to the satisfaction of the University, an equivalent combination of education and experience specifically preparing the candidate for success in the position.
