Description
Sewickley Academy seeks to hire an Assistant/Associate Head of School. This is a key leadership position at the Academy, working closely with the Head of School, to engage, promote, and align academic excellence and co-curricular areas of the school. This role will manage many of the day-to-day functions of the Academy. It is a 12-month position.
Responsibilities
Academic Leadership and Curriculum Development
- Oversee the day-to-day internal functions across all divisions (Junior Pre-Kindergarten-Grade 12).
- Provide strategic direction for curriculum integrity, alignment, and articulation.
- Collaborate with Division Heads and other leaders to promote innovative instructional practices and content.
- Create and monitor alignment of programs and student/parent experiences between each of the divisions.
- Advise the Head of School on academic programming, staffing, and curriculum-related initiatives.
- May teach up to one course.
Supervision and Development
- Lead the selection, hiring, and retention of new faculty.
- Lead the evaluation and professional growth of all full-time faculty members.
- Promote a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement in teaching practices.
- Supervise and provide leadership for Division Heads, Support Services, Libraries, and External Programs including summer camps, with possible other direct reports depending on prior experience.
Strategic and Operational Leadership
- Manage the accreditation processes of the Academy.
- Work closely with the Head of School to implement strategic initiatives and respond to evolving educational needs.
- Act as an educational leader and advocate, representing the Academy within and beyond the school community, including but not limited to, attending school and external events.
- Manage budgets for academic programs, professional development, and related areas, ensuring efficient use of resources to support strategic goals.
- Coordinate with Division Heads to develop master schedules and oversee teaching assignments.
- Support Division Heads with high level parent/student concerns.
- Serve on the admissions committee and engage with families and colleagues throughout the process as helpful.
- Collect, evaluate, and meaningfully interpret schoolwide data for student learning and the betterment of the school.
Community Engagement
- Serve as a visible and approachable leader within the school community.
- Cultivate positive relationships with students, faculty, staff, parents, and external stakeholders.
- Support and enhance the overall well-being of the Academy and its members.
- Attend meetings of the Board of Trustees.
Qualifications
- A minimum of a master's degree.
- At least 5 years of senior administrative experience, preferably in independent school settings.
- Proven expertise in Junior Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 12 curriculum development, student learning, and faculty leadership.
- Demonstrated ability to make data-driven decisions that balance strategic goals with the needs of students, faculty, and the broader school community.
- Strategic, forward-thinking, and innovative leadership abilities and proven management track record.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.
- Strong ability to strike the right balance between maintaining a warm, approachable presence and being a clear, decisive leader.
- Ability to manage difficult conversations.
- A deep understanding of current trends in education and the developmental needs of students.
- Start date no later than July 1, 2025.
