Position Summary:
We are seeking a compassionate and resourceful College and Career Consultant to work directly with both high school students applying to college and disconnected youth (ages 16-24), providing individualized support and fostering their personal, educational, and professional growth. This role is crucial in creating a welcoming environment where youth feel supported as they navigate pathways to higher education, skill development, long-term career opportunities, and lifelong learning.
Responsibilities:
- Engage with Youth: Build trusting relationships through regular communication and offer encouragement and guidance in a supportive and welcoming environment.
- Consultations: Plan and implement one-on-one meetings with each young adult on an ongoing basis throughout the job or college application process.
- Skill Development: Facilitate one-on-one workshops focused on various skills, including professional, personal, and interpersonal development.
- Career Assessment: Conduct career assessments to identify youth's interests, aptitudes, and potential career pathways.
- Interview Practice and Techniques: Conduct mock interviews and discuss different interviewing styles and how to handle them.
- Career Planning: Stay informed about career opportunities and trends, and assist youth in identifying sustainable, long-term career paths.
- Act as a Liaison: Facilitate communication between stakeholders, including job sites, schools, parents, and youth.
- Job and School Selection: Help match young adults with their ideal college or job by utilizing extensive knowledge of colleges and career options and data-driven metrics.
- Writing Support: Conduct multiple rounds of drafting and editing of college essays, resumes, and cover letters until they are submission-ready.
- Flexible Hours: Must be able to work flexible hours to accommodate youth from different time zones.
- Executive Functioning: Strategize ways to help youths reach their career and academic goals and potential.
- Learning Opportunities: Research and promote ongoing learning opportunities, such as standardized test preparation, job training programs, certifications, or further education.
- Administrative Oversight: Maintain accurate records in databases, manage youth schedules and communications, and ensure timely follow-ups.
- Collaboration: Participate in regular check-ins to share insights, discuss strategies, and ensure a coordinated approach to youth development.
- Resource Coordination: Collaborate with Knovva staff to understand available resources and synchronize the needed support and resources for youth.
- Workshop and Curriculum Development: Design and deliver engaging workshops and curricula tailored to the specific needs of each young adult and focused on building skills, college and career readiness, and personal development.
- Protocol Development: Create and implement standardized protocols for working with young adults that are consistent, efficient, and aligned with best practices in youth engagement and support.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Bachelors or Master's degree in social work, education, counseling, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- 5-7 years experience working in a related counseling role. Experience working with disconnected or opportunity youth is a plus.
- Experienced and knowledgeable about the college counseling process and the requirements to get into desired schools.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a demonstrated ability to build rapport and trust.
- Strong problem-solving skills and proven record for taking ownership of responsibilities.
- Knowledge of career counseling techniques, job markets, and educational opportunities.
- Exceptional organizational skills, including database management and scheduling.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team while independently managing tasks and responsibilities.
- Cultural competence and a trauma-informed approach to youth development is a plus.
- Experience teaching writing or working closely with students who are editing their essays.
- Experience working in an international and multicultural environment.
- Experience facilitating workshops or coaching sessions.
- Bilingual or multilingual abilities are a plus.

The Educational and Career Consultant is a remote, part-time position with a preference for candidates based in Massachusetts or Pennsylvania. Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience. Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States; sponsorship is not being offered at this time. Extensive travel is not currently expected.
