Compliance & Financial Crime Analyst – 6-month Contract London or Newcastle Upon Tyne (hybrid) We’re Perenna, a digital mortgage bank that will revolutionise the UK mortgage market. We offer flexible fixed rate mortgages, with terms ranging from 15 years up to 40 years, providing full payment certainty and protecting borrowers against interest rate rises. To support our growth and expansion, we’re looking for someone with experience in compliance and financial crime to join our Compliance team on a contract basis, supporting the maintenance of our compliance framework. What you’ll be doing. As our Compliance & Financial Crime Analyst, you’ll report to the Head of Compliance and play a key role in our second line Compliance function. This is a wide-ranging role, where you’ll be involved in a wide range of activities, including: Supporting the provision of our Compliance Advisory service – our second line Compliance team delivers Compliance Advisory services across the bank, to our first line operational teams in functions ranging from mortgage origination, finance and treasury, people and marketing teams. You’ll respond to first line enquiries, including MCOB and financial crime referrals. You will also review customer communications, including marketing material, financial promotions, and customer-facing documents. Assist in the delivery of our Compliance framework – you will be on point to support the development and delivery of mandatory regulatory training and awareness initiatives across the business, as well as the ongoing review of compliance and bank-wide policies and operational procedures. In this role, you will also monitor all compliance and financial crime regulatory change, working to ensure that impacted teams are informed of “action-required” changes. Provide compliance expertise for key activities – You’ll undertake second line compliance and financial crime monitoring activities, and compliance support, including conflicts of interest declarations and policy management, customer screening and monitoring. Part of your role will be to help with the provision of compliance and financial crime MI. Other aspects of this role will be to assist with the ongoing maintenance of an SM&CR framework for the business. You’ll be expected to escalate any incidents or potential breaches to the Head of Conduct Compliance and the MLRO in a timely manner Your skills and experience. Here are the skills and experiences you could bring to Perenna that would make a great impact: Experience in a similar second-line compliance role in a retail bank, where you’ll have built a track record in compliance and financial crime activities. A strong understanding of the oversight of third-party relationships, and an awareness of the regulatory landscape around third-party suppliers in retail banks In-role experience of working with mortgage products, with a working knowledge of MCOB, and the ability to read and interpret the FCA Handbook and PRA Rulebook, and other relevant industry guidance. Strong skills in financial crime onboarding and relevant ongoing screening and monitoring requirements. To be successful in this role, you will need to have good analytical skills, and be able to influence positively through your presentation, written and verbal capabilities. Whilst it’s not essential, if you have any experience in start-up or challenger banks, this might be a really useful background. Role basics This is a contract role – we’re happy to work with you as a fixed term contractor, where you’d be a payrolled employee, and have access to standard employment benefits for the duration of your contract. We’re also happy to work with you if you have a private limited company, and would like to work on a daily rate. Our roles are hybrid. This means although we don’t expect you to be in the office every day, there are some things that are just better done together – in-person team training, collaborating on new processes and improvement to how we do things, informal chats and in-person get togethers to explore new things or get a wider perspective on what’s going on. We want to make the balance work between working at home and at the office that best enables efficiency, connection and collaboration, so 60% of your working time is spent flexibly at our offices each month.
