Job Description: Barista Reports to: Director of Global Grounds | Global Grounds Coffee FLSA Status: Non-Exempt | Part-time; Hourly Availability Needed: We are open from 9am-2pm, looking for someone available 1-3 shifts per week, with Sunday availability. Position Purpose The Barista warmly welcomes customers to their establishment. They create and serve hot or cold beverages, often tailored to the customers needs, with good attention to detail and great communication. As shift leader, the barista will often be responsible for opening/closing the coffee shop and working solo or managing any volunteers working alongside. Main Responsibilities Opening/Closing the shop Greeting and taking customer orders and payments, and making drinks Clean and sanitize their work areas, seating areas and equipment/tools Essential Duties Describing menu items and suggesting products to customers Servicing customers and taking orders Prepare beverages following recipes Keep the bar area clean Check if brewing equipment operates properly and reports any maintenance needs Comply with health and safety regulations Communicate customer feedback to managers and recommend new menu items Handle/serve pastries, sandwiches and other food items Follow checklist of opening/closing responsibilities Proficiencies Needed Attention to detail Great communication skills Ability to learn to operate POS system/register Barista experience appreciated but not required Flexible availability must be age 18 or older Sunday availability necessary
