TITLE: Principal Electrical Engineer
LOCATION: Philadelphia, PA
DUTIES: Identifies, tracks, and manages Configuration Management for Hardware and Software Updates of back-office and communications subsystem. Deploys communication component upgrades for ongoing PTC Projects. Develops solutions of next generation/upcoming ACSES back-office and communication subsystems. Leads and executes overall design life cycle (conceptual design, final design, implementation, installation, test, and commissioning) for the ACSES communications, back-office subsystems, and communication field issues. Develops factory/field test plans, test procedures, and test reports for critical back-office systems in conjunction with design requirements. Supports firmware update/configuration changes of safety critical back-office systems in accordance with internal change management policies. Supports wired-network change requests, design, documentation, and testing of PTC network modifications related to routing, switching, firewall policies; and ensures compliance with internal cyber security guidelines. Develops, tests, and deploys monitoring tools to integrate with existing PTC monitoring systems. Evaluates existing application and platform architectures and provides recommendations for system enhancements by conducting gap analysis, identifying feasible alternative solutions, and assisting in the scope of modifications.
REQUIREMENTS: Must have a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field with seven (7) years of progressive, post-bachelors experience as a Principal Electrical Engineer or any occupation related to Electrical Engineering. Alternatively, must have a Master’s degree or equivalent in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field with five (5) years of progressive, post-bachelors experience as a Principal Electrical Engineer or any occupation related to Electrical Engineering. Must also have three (3) years of experience: (1) Working with ACSES systems, with demonstrated subject matter expertise in back-office and/or communications components; (2) Designing IP networks, configuring network devices, and troubleshooting; (3) Designing and troubleshooting messaging systems using standard network protocols (UDP, TCP, SSH, TLS), and designing application-level message interfaces; and (4) Implementing applications running on Linux operating system (with expertise in RHEL/CentOS a plus), including package selection, installation, hardening, and general systems management. Must also have two (2) years of experience: (5) Designing, analyzing, implementing, and testing of PTC system modifications, in particular changes affecting safety functions; (6) RF designing including conducting RF modeling, base station zoning/addressing, and land-mobile RF propagation analysis; (7) Implementing network and application-level security and authorization principles including setups with TLS/IPSec, X.509 certificates/PKIs and user authentication/authorization (LDAP/AD, RADIUS/SAML); and (8) Programming and scripting experience with Python, Rust, bash scripting, and web languages. All experience may be acquired concurrently. Remote work permitted in accordance with standard company policy. All positions require pre-employment background check verification and a pre-employment drug screen. Up to 25% travel required at various locations throughout the U.S.
SALARY: $130,770 to $179,300 per year
