About the LocationHybrid Position:
This position may be considered Hybrid based on PetSmart’s FlexSmart policy and business needs. A Hybrid work arrangement is considered to be a blend of onsite and remote work activity. Associates with a Hybrid work arrangement have a work space at Phoenix Home Office and can be required to come onsite between 1-5 days a week as determined by leadership and based on business needs.

SUMMARY
The Senior Paralegal, Marketing will provide comprehensive legal support to PetSmart’s marketing department. This role is crucial in ensuring that all customer-facing marketing activities comply with applicable laws, regulations, and internal policies. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in reviewing marketing materials, managing compliance issues, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to mitigate legal risks. The candidate for this position must have stellar judgment and be able to provide practical, business-oriented legal support to the marketing team so that they can achieve commercial goals in a fast-paced environment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Review and approve marketing materials, advertisements, promotional content, and customer communications to ensure compliance with legal standards and company policies, including in-store signage and promotions, digital advertising, social media, and sweepstakes and contests.
- Advise on appropriate disclaimers, disclosures, and other legal requirements for marketing campaigns.
- Ensure marketing activities comply with federal and state laws, including FTC guidelines.
- Review agreements related to marketing activities, including sponsorship agreements and influencer contracts.
- Develop and deliver training for marketing and other relevant departments on legal issues related to marketing activities.
- Keep the marketing team informed about changes in laws and regulations that may impact marketing strategies and campaigns.
- Conduct legal research and provide analysis on various legal issues related to marketing and advertising.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor's degree in paralegal studies, paralegal certificate OR the equivalent combination of formal education, training and or experience
- Minimum of 5 years of related and relevant experience, preferably with larger business clients. In-house legal experience is a plus.
- Relevant experience includes:
- Knowledge of federal and state false advertising and deceptive trade practices laws
- Strong understanding of relevant consumer products compliance issues

- Must have excellent commercial judgment.
- Must have interpersonal skills, including an ability to work well with others, influence management, peers and staff.
- Must have good communication skills, including the ability to quickly digest and convey complex legal issues to non-legal professionals throughout the company.
- Must have excellent organizational skills and the ability to effectively prioritize, manage and deliver projects on time.
