Seeking Volunteer Career Coaches
We plan to offer a "reverse recruiting" service to support those who have challenges obtaining and maintaining a job by providing job and career coaching, and checking in with their employer and immediate supervisors.
The purpose of this role is to provide support, suggestions and recommendations to individuals on the spectrum via email, text and occasional video conferences via Google Meet. We estimate this will entail 1-2 hours per week of emails, phone calls or video meetings, and another 2-3 hours of applying for jobs on their behalf, creating / editing / improving their resumes, cover letters, and LinkedIn and Indeed profiles.
Individuals signing up for this program have typically gone through Life Skills, Youth Transition, and Vocational Rehabilitation training programs, but still struggle to obtain and maintain gainful employment.
Estimated Time Commitment
Volunteers will be asked to support one individual for a minimum of three months.
We estimate this will take up to five (5) hours per week and will take place remotely via email, text, or video meetings, whichever you are most comfortable with. You'll be provided with a workability email to protect your privacy, and to help maintain boundaries.
Requirements
Before being paired with an individual, Volunteer Career Coaches are required to complete the Society of Human Resources Management (SHRM) Foundations Employing Abilities at Work online course and certification, a ten (10) hour program https://employingabilities.org/certificate/ and will receive a $50 stipend for its completion, plus $50 per month for a minimum of three months.
Our goal is to pair volunteers with one individual within two weeks of completing the online training, and to support that individual for a minimum of three months.
Ideal Characteristics
This opportunity is ideal for retired individuals seeking an engaging and rewarding volunteer experience topped with a modest stipend. A successful career in any field will be especially helpful.
Warm-hearted and kind persons who are also able to provide coaching, instruction and guidance while concurrently maintaining boundaries in a teacher:student type of working partnership.
Remember the goal of the program is to support those who suffer from "failure to launch," and to help them become more self-sufficient and independent, not co-dependent.
This is program is self-funded by workability, and has developed out of a need to support dozens of Neurodivergent individuals who have contacted us for help and support regarding finding and keeping a job.
Stipends will be transferred electronically via ADP Roll, our payment system, and we ask volunteers to set up a direct deposit account through this app.
Thank you for taking the time to read this posting, and for considering this unique volunteer opportunity. We greatly appreciate your interest, and hope to have an opportunity to work with you soon.
