Purpose
The role is responsible for developing an integrated (Social Impact) strategy aligned to Scotiabank's Purpose, Vision and Strategic Pillars. The role will provide strategic direction, leadership and accountability of global (Social Impact) across several dimensions, including Community Investment, Employee Community Engagement, Truth & Reconciliation, Human Rights, Environmental, Social & Governance progress and key metric reporting, Fine Arts, and Corporate History.
Accountabilities
Strategy Development and Execution:
Oversight of Scotiabank's (Social Impact) strategy, including accountability for the Bank's signature economic resilience program, ScotiaRISE. Accountable for implementation of the Bank's Human Rights strategy, Truth & Reconciliation Action Plan, Global Employee Giving and Community Engagement, and ESG Reporting. Continually consult with key internal stakeholders in the development of (Social Impact) strategies and risks. Continually evaluate progress of (Social Impact) programs and ensure goals are assessed against KPIs. Ensure accurate and transparent reporting to senior leadership and the Board. Cultivate a strong and transparent relationship with the Community Investment Committee, and report to the Committee on a timely basis regarding financial performance, program effectiveness, and all relevant matters needed to carry out their responsibilities.
Leadership:
Provide inspiration and thought leadership across Scotiabank, including developing, sponsoring and disseminating research on economic resilience topics for business partners and customers. Increase Scotiabank employee knowledge of (Social Impact) programs to help build Scotia pride and advocacy. Serve as a Scotiabank representative and spokesperson internally and externally. Ensure that similar opportunities are made available to Scotiabank leaders and ensure consistent messaging.
Operational Oversight:
Accountable for the management of approximately 60MM in community investment budget and oversight of approximately 90MM in global donations. Ensure that budgets and technology platforms and are in compliance with policies. Ensure the accuracy and integrity of all ESG and community investment budget reporting, internal and external. Create an environment in which members of the team act in accordance with Scotiabank values and code of conduct while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML, ATF, sanctions and conduct risk.
Stakeholder Engagement :
Establish and maintain strategic partnerships with community organizations NGOs, government organizations, think tanks, academic institutions, to enhance community and brand impact. Ensure proactive stakeholder engagement with investors, clients and activists. Collaborate with Global Communications and affected business and functional units to address (Social Impact) issues and opportunities.
Attract and Retain a Diverse High-Performing Team:
Lead and drive a client-focused culture within the team to deepen client relationships and leverage broader bank relationships, systems and knowledge. Build a high-performance environment and implement a people strategy that attracts, retains, motivates and develops his/her team by fostering an inclusive work environment and using a coaching mindset and behaviours; communicating vision, values, business strategy; and managing succession and development planning for the team.
Dimensions / Skills / Qualifications
Be a respected and proven leader who possesses 15+ years of corporate experience. Strong knowledge of corporate social responsibility and ESG as well as financial services experience. Experience in public policy would be beneficial in this role. Possess the ability to lead transformational change, build organizational alignment contributing to a strong culture. Experience as a member on a for-profit or charitable board, or will have reported to a Board of Directors in a previous role. Possess exceptional communication and public speaking skills, be a creative problem solver and thought leader Governance bodies: Corporate Community Investment Committee; Corporate Governance Committee of the Board Interact frequently with the Company's Executive Leadership Team and leaders of business and corporate functions A creative, strategic thinker and self-starter who is proactive and entrepreneurial. Commitment to and passion for corporate citizenship within financial services Change agent who can constructively challenge conventional ways of thinking and introduce new ideas A strong and effective leader who can use impact and influence to drive alignment and execution across a matrixed organization Strategy, project management, consulting skills Excellent written and oral communications skills, including public speaking, meeting facilitation and presentations Excellent interpersonal, advocacy and political skills Ability to establish and meet deadlines; ability to establish clear priorities quickly Excellent reputation for integrity and judgment
