The Commercial team plays a critical role supporting the Business Development and Bid teams. The complexity, scale, and detail of the bids demand the very best quantitative and qualitative analysis. These bidding processes are supported by vast amounts of data generated both internally and externally. The commercial team is responsible for providing the team with accurate timely analysis to form the foundations of high-level reports and presentations. The analysis is not limited to the numbers, as important are the commercial interpretations and qualitative factors.
The models that support the budget and forecast are critical to the Commercial team's ability to enhance opportunity and manage risks. The Commercial team is responsible for maintaining and evaluating the model with respect to each transaction, ensuring that the contract financials and pricing solutions are consistent. Working closely with the subject matter experts, the team plays a key role in “trafficking” the multitude of stakeholders through the transaction to its financial close. In this capacity, the team is closely aligned with every facet of the bid.
As the Commercial Manager, responsibilities will include:
- Supporting senior management and bid teams through the entire tendering/bidding process providing technical support and commercial insights.

- Understanding the context and broader goals around contract negotiation.
- Presenting complex financial information to a broad range of senior internal and external stakeholders.
- Leading critical elements of the bid processes and providing well-founded, sound commercial advice.
Candidates require around 5 years experience supporting large bid and tender processes; experience in Social Infrastructure transactions would be particularly useful. You will be able to demonstrate advanced knowledge of applying financial models to commercial contracts. Having worked in either another Service Provider or in an Advisory team, you will have worked through a number of large transactions, PPP deals, for example, and have a detailed knowledge of all the component parts of the deal from cradle to grave.
You must have been part of a winning bid process and seen firsthand how a successful bid evolves and instinctively understand the key risks and how to mitigate them. Critical to this is a detailed understanding of a financial model and how it is applied to a large complex transaction. As a lead participant in the market, the successful candidate will benefit from participating in headline deals. This is a high-profile role, and you can expect the challenges to be commensurate with the exposure you will have. The team is required to be courageous, so you will have to be confident in your abilities and be prepared to take well-considered risks.
