Finance Business Partner - R&D (12-month contract)

What We're Looking For...
As a fast-growing company with global R&D activities, the primary purpose of this role is to be the trusted financial partner to the Research & Development Business leadership teams in achieving their strategic and financial goals. This role will be a key member of the FP&A team and work closely with the VP of Finance and the R&D leadership teams.
Your role will include:
Strategic and Financial Planning
- Together with the R&D leadership teams, develop the R&D Business Units' strategic and financial plans that align with achieving Saluda's overall strategic goals.
- Prior experience in financial appraisal and strategic planning for both long and short term financial planning (5/10 year), strong annual and operation budget as well as quarterly forecasting and OpEx review analysis.
- Examples include financial appraisal of their strategic plan, developing their long range financial plans (5YP/10YP), annual budget/operating plan, the quarterly forecasts, financialization of the product development and Clinical trial portfolio, and operating reviews, performing scenario/sensitivity analysis, identifying financial risk and opportunities in the operating environment, and development of business cases.
Financial Business Partnering
- Partner the R&D Business Unit teams to deliver on their strategic and financial plans.
- Proven experience leading and contributing to improvement initiatives such as portfolio reporting/process, RFQ and supplier network and system improvements.
- Examples include contributing to and leading improvement initiatives (e.g. portfolio reporting and processes, RFQ's and supplier network, driving process and systems improvements), driving financial accountability for financial results, improving the financial acumen across the business unit, and other projects as required).
Financial Performance Reporting and Management
- Operate and continuously improve the financial performance management processes, reports and KPI's to enable the R&D business units to achieve their business goals.
- Experience delivering accurate monthly results, forecast and budget pack as well as oversight and distribution of action oriented KPI dashboards.
- Experience developing action plans and improvement of reporting capabilities and finance technologies.
- Examples include delivery of relevant, insightful, accurate and timely financial information (monthly results, forecast/budget packs), lead the production and distribution of action orientated KPI dashboards (e.g. Portfolio and project trackers), lead the R&D accrual process, regular financial performance review meetings with budget holders to review performance, develop action plans and re-projections, improving reporting capabilities and efficiency of delivery to end users (e.g. use of technologies ERP, BI etc..)
Maintaining an Effective Internal Control Environment
- Together with the financial accounting team, ensuring an effective internal control environment for the R&D Business Units to ensure integrity of the financial information.
- Strong understanding regarding financial policies and protocol related to internal controls monitoring and compliance auditing.
- Examples include ensuring financial policies and internal controls are relevant, up to date, and monitoring for compliance, support financial audits and assessments of the control environment as required, maintaining the integrity of data, and continuously improving the quality of financial information.
Additional expectations:
- Ability to work effectively across time zones and cultures.
- Some travel may be required.
About you:
- Successful FP&A track record including budgeting/forecasts, management reports and analytics.
- Successful track record in project appraisal, business cases an ongoing project budget management
- Strong knowledge of project and portfolio accounting with hands on experience working in a project environment (medical device or other life sciences preferred but not required).
- Professional Accounting or Finance Qualifications (Chartered, CPA or equivalent).
- 10+ years commercial experience in a multinational organisation.
- Strong communication and presentation skills.
- Ability to build strong relationships with a range of stakeholders cross-functionally.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and influence teams and driving process excellence.
- Strong in Microsoft Excel, attention to detail and advanced financial modelling.
- Good working knowledge of MS PowerPoint and Word.
- Experience with ERP (e.g. QAD or similar), BI (Workday Analytics, Power BI, or similar).
- Outstanding business planning & analysis skills.
- Alignment with Saluda's core values.
It's not essential, but nice if you have:
- Experience in the medical device manufacturing field or a similar highly regulated business environment.
- Experience with project accounting and project methodologies.
- Experience with QAD ERP, Workday Analytics, Power BI.
