Job Description
Under the supervision of the Investment Director, the Investment Head monitors the current investment portfolios of the University, ensuring adherence to investment policies and financial risk management guidelines, and executing short-term investments. The position also serves as the liaison between the University and the external investment partners.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
- Management of Investment Portfolios
- Provides regular performance reports about investment matters needed for decision-making.
- Tracks, records, analyzes, and reports the performance of the investment portfolios.
- Computes and analyzes the performance of the benchmarks and the individual portfolios’ returns generated by the portfolio managers.
- Identifies potential risk areas and provides recommendations on how to address current and emerging concerns.
- Provides recommendations to balance the liquidity requirements of the University and the attainment of investment goals.
- Maintains data on benchmark performance and fund performance, ensuring that information is available to provide an accurate and up-to-date picture of the University’s investment status.
- Monitors the domestic and foreign portfolio managers’ adherence to portfolio guidelines and investment instructions, observance of asset allocation limits, and compliance with the benchmarks of portfolios.
- Monitors the credit and investment exposures of the portfolios to stay within approved limits.
- Monitors the investment performance of the various portfolios vs. portfolio benchmarks.
- Prepares written instructions regarding the implementation of investment strategies.
- Recommends participating in new issues of discretionary asset classes and allocates the amount of participation among the various accounts.
- Prepares and/or reviews PowerPoint presentation material on investment performance presented to relevant committees.
- Prepares financial models regarding the University’s future plans and projects, under the direction of the VP for Finance / Treasurer.
- Attends to the account update documentation of the investment accounts.
- Serves as the point person between the University and the portfolio managers in arranging and scheduling the regular portfolio review meetings.
- Sources and evaluates investment opportunities and makes necessary recommendations.
- Prepares recommendations to establish credit or investment limits for new issuers.
Performs other duties that may be assigned by the immediate supervisor or by the Vice President for Finance and Treasurer. Minimum Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Familiarity with domestic and global bond markets, stock markets, interest rate movements, and currency movements.
- Familiarity with Bloomberg.
- Understanding of the financial and capital markets.
- Extensive knowledge of statistical models and analysis.
- Ability to apply sound business and financial judgment.
- Highly organized, structured, and logical.
- Advanced proficiency in productivity tools such as MS Office and statistical and financial software.
- Ability to influence and negotiate.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- High personal and professional integrity.
- Detail oriented.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- A Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, actuarial science, or a related quantitative field.
- A Master's degree in business administration, economics, finance, or math is an advantage.
- A Certified Public Accountant or Chartered Financial Analyst is preferred.
- At least 5 years’ relevant experience in Trust Dept., portfolio management, fund administration, investment operations, financial modeling, and risk analytics.
