We are also at the forefront of providing the organisation with the strategic insight and analysis needed to anticipate future challenges and opportunities that exist within this rapidly evolving space.
The purpose and scope of the role
We are recruiting a highly skilled and knowledgeable Online Safety Tech and Trends Consultant to join our team. Our Online Safety Group operates in a fast-moving landscape, and the ideal candidate will be responsible for identifying, analysing, and advising on the latest trends, risks, and opportunities in the online safety sector (and related markets) over the next 5 years.
This role involves horizon scanning, delivering high-quality strategic analysis, and leading engagement with external stakeholders. You will be expected to have a high degree of expertise and experience in strategic thinking and market analysis.
Your Key Responsibilities
Strategic analysis and thought leadership
- Lead the monitoring and analysis of emerging trends, risks, and opportunities impacting consumer behaviour/attitudes, business models, and technological innovation over the next 5 years.
- Apply robust analytical approaches, including identifying the likelihood, risk, and impact emerging trends pose to the market and consumers.
- Contribute proactively to debates about strategic and policy issues, providing thought leadership within the Strategy & Policy team and Online Safety Group.
Project management and delivery
- Manage a strategic workstream, under the guidance of more senior colleagues, including taking ownership of key day-to-day responsibilities (e.g., timelines, internal and external stakeholders engagement).
- Take an active role in leading and maintaining dialogue with external stakeholders.
- Exercise good judgement in proactively managing and mitigating risks.
- Independently lead the delivery of a high-quality and detailed horizon scanning report for internal consumption and presenting the results to internal stakeholders.
- Design and lead a roundtable with stakeholders to develop Ofcom’s understanding of stakeholder positions and market developments over the next 5 years.
The skills, knowledge and experience you’ll need for success
You should have a demonstrable ability to:
- Lead, with minimal supervision, horizon scanning conducting market and consumer analysis of new technologies and platforms in the Online Safety sector.
- Experience of developing and delivering your own workplan, including decision making, prioritisation, taking ownership of progress against deadlines and production of deliverables.
- Experience building, leading and maintaining working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Analytical skills, including conducting research and analysis into complex issues to solve problems and find solutions.
- Interpersonal and communication skills, including experience in confidently presenting complex ideas to different audiences, including external stakeholders.
- Keen interest and/or practical knowledge of emerging online safety regulation in the UK and beyond – and Ofcom’s mission to create a safer life online for people in the UK.
- Drafting skills, with a focus on producing clear, concise documents for internal use or external publication.
