About the role:
As the Executive Director of Environmental Services, your role will be pivotal in leading quality scientific, policy, approval and compliance functions within the EPA. You will operate in a complex, dynamic, and politically sensitive environment where your leadership skills will be put to test. Your primary responsibility will be to support the Chief Executive in implementing a significant change program positioning the Authority to be an efficient and effective environmental regulator for the future.
Leading the Authority’s policy and science capabilities, its interface with government and other stakeholders on sustainable development, the Executive Director will have a key role in leading the effective delivery and reform of environmental advisory and regulatory functions. Significant policy leadership will be required as the EPA’s Program Director for climate change, and on leading implementation of Government’s reforms to the governance of the Container Deposit Scheme.
You will also have lead responsibility for key corporate functions including finance and IT, including leading the implementation of the Authority’s new IT roadmap. These responsibilities will require you to establish effective networks with key industry representatives and leaders from other agencies across State and Federal Governments.
- Manage public and stakeholder interface through proactive media and public communications
- Embed new approaches to resolve current issues of importance to the community
- Promote an integrated policy and operational approach to current and emerging regulatory challenges
What you bring:

Your proven leadership skills have enabled you to optimise team capabilities in previous roles. You are known for making sound decisions that are both timely and cost-effective. Your understanding of government policies allows you to navigate complex regulatory environments with ease. Your ability to manage people fairly has earned you respect among your peers. - Proven senior management experience in a similar technical or scientific environment
- Strong leadership skills with ability to optimise team capability and performance
- Ability to make sound, timely, cost-effective decisions
- Understanding of government policies including Premier’s Directions, DPC Circulars, Treasurer’s Instructions
- Experience in managing people fairly and equitably
- Ability to promote a culture of continuous improvement
