A secondary school in Newham is looking for a candidate who is happy to work as a Behaviour Improvement Officer within the Exclusion department. The officer will provide support and mentoring to students who are struggling to work within a classroom setting through one-to-one support and assistance with their work. This role involves working across KS3, 4 & 5.
This would be a great opportunity for anyone interested in Pastoral or Wellbeing support and may be looking to pursue a qualified mentoring role in the future. The officer will report to the Student Manager and ensure the health and safety of all students in their care is a priority. Responsibilities include checking that students are in lessons at designated times and raising any concerns with the Student Manager.

Job Responsibilities:
- Support and guide students within an exclusion setting.
- Maintain a safe learning environment at all times, minimizing disruption to learning.
- Manage student conduct with positive reinforcement, adhering to school policies.
- Liaise with other staff members to ensure plans are in place to support students.
- Work with departments within the school and outside agencies as required.
Preferred Skills:
- Relevant experience in a similar setting or a coaching/mentoring qualification.
- Ability to de-escalate difficult situations calmly and professionally.
- Good understanding of responsibility for the personal health, safety, and welfare of students.
- Able to prioritize work schedules and multitask.
- Hold a valid DBS or apply for one.
