What's a Social Enterprise?

workability is a social enterprise which owns and operates www.workability.one, a specialty recruitment advertising platform and Internet Job Board that connects inclusive employers with neurodiverse and disabled job seekers across the United States.

What is a social enterprise, you ask? A social enterprise or social business is defined as a business with specific social objectives that serve its primary purpose. Social enterprises seek to maximize profits while maximizing benefits to society and the environment, and the profits are principally used to fund social programs.

To put it simply, social enterprises form to fulfill a business purpose and solve societal needs through their commercial activities.

Founded in May 2021 in Bend, Oregon, workability is certified as a Minority Business Enterprise (MBE), Woman Business Enterprise (WBE), and as an Emerging Small Business by the Oregon Certification Office for Business Inclusion and Diversity (COBID).

workability is a proud member of the following advocacy and trade associations:

  • Association for People Support Employment first (www.aspe.org)
  • Society for Human Resources Management (www.shrm.org)
  • Association for Talent Acquisition Professionals (https://atapglobal.org/)
  • Oregon Association of Minority Entrepreneurs (https://oame.org/)
  • Bend Chamber of Commerce (https://bendchamber.org/)

workability also produces professional development and continuing education programs for recruiters, talent acquisition, talent sourcing, talent development, and other key human resources roles. Our areas of focus are underserved and rural communities across the United States, where resources for neurodiverse and disabled individuals are sparse.
