The Telehealth Medical Consultant (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) provides clinical consultation and medical oversight to support the safe and effective delivery of behavioral health services within a community-based program. This role focuses on medication consultation, clinical guidance, and staff education to promote safe medication practices and crisis stabilization procedures. The Telehealth Medical Consultant collaborates with clinical leadership and interdisciplinary care teams to ensure client safety, regulatory compliance, and adherence to best practices in behavioral health care. This role is consultative in nature and does not involve prescribing or dispensing medications, but rather supports staff and program leadership through clinical expertise and oversight. Responsibilities Provide clinical consultation regarding medications prescribed to clients by external healthcare providers. Educate clinical staff on medication purposes, classifications, side effects, contraindications, and monitoring requirements. Serve as a clinical resource for medication safety, wellness considerations, and best practices in behavioral health settings. Provide supervision and clinical oversight for Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) involved in medication administration support and client wellness monitoring. Review and approve clinical procedures performed by nursing staff in accordance with program policies and scope of practice. Offer medical oversight related to crisis stabilization procedures, including time-limited physical restraint orders when required for client safety. Review and approve documentation related to crisis interventions and ensure procedures align with clinical standards and organizational policies. Support staff in monitoring client health status during behavioral crisis interventions, including vital signs, wellness checks, and documentation standards. Assist in developing and delivering training sessions for staff regarding medication safety and behavioral health clinical practices. Collaborate with program leadership to maintain compliance with state regulations, clinical standards, and organizational policies. Contribute to the review and improvement of clinical protocols related to medication consultation, crisis management, and health monitoring. Qualifications Licensed Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) with an active, unrestricted license in good standing (state requirements may vary). Strong knowledge of psychiatric and behavioral health medications. Experience working in behavioral health, mental health, or community-based healthcare programs preferred. Ability to provide clinical consultation, training, and supervision to interdisciplinary teams. Strong communication, collaboration, and clinical decision-making skills. Experience with telehealth or remote consultation preferred. Ability to interpret clinical policies, regulatory requirements, and best practice guidelines.
