Roeper is currently recruiting for a 50% Part-time Mandarin Teacher for our World Language Department. Position SummaryThe World Language - Mandarin Teacher works collaboratively with teacher colleagues to provide an intellectually challenging, creative and differentiated educational program for learners. The World Language – Mandarin Teacher is responsible for coordinating instruction using developmentally appropriate best curricular approaches for providing instruction in three levels of Mandarin Chinese to multi-age classrooms of gifted students. Key Responsibilities• Use Modern World Language best practices to teach Mandarin to Middle and Upper School students by developing and delivering class sections of Mandarin Chinese.• Implement an academically strong, child-centered and differentiated curriculum to gifted students• Identify and meet the diverse needs of learners by being flexible and using creative approaches• Facilitate the social and emotional development of the students in potentially mixed-age classes; demonstrate care and consideration of each student.• Utilize a variety of instructional and assessment methods, including those that integrate technology, and have excellent communication skills• Develop, implement, and sustain a proficiency-based curriculum that emphasizes communication as well as fostering critical thinking, creativity, and collaborative skills in students• Collaborate with World Language Department faculty to develop scope and sequence of Mandarin program• Communicate regularly with students and families, including conferences, progress updates and narrative semester reports.• Maintain effective communication with students, teachers, colleagues and administration• Collaborate with classroom teachers on cross-curricular units to support student development• Collaborate with Middle and Upper School faculty on school wide initiatives and support of education through varied activities including meeting attendance and professional development days, committee participation, and events• Collaborate with colleagues in development and documentation of curriculum, as well as the scope and sequence of disciplinary skills.• Support World Languages program and the school to meet overall mission of The Roeper School Skills• Fluency in Mandarin Chinese• Experience and competency in designing, developing, and delivering curriculum that is age appropriate for gifted adolescent students.• Ability to offer engaging, participatory, and challenging classes.• Ability to support and collaborate with teachers to contribute and reach learning and classroom objectives.• Demonstrated instructional and communication skills• Knowledge/experience working with gifted learners• Ability to form collaborative work relationships• Demonstrated commitment to cultural competency work in order to perform responsibilities in accordance with Roeper's commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion• A collegial approach and congenial temperament Qualifications• Fluency in Mandarin Chinese• Bachelor’s degree in Education or related field• Three to five years of experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience• Teacher Certification preferred but not required BenefitsRoeper offers competitive compensation and benefits that include• Medical, dental, vision, life insurance• Short-term and long-term disability coverage• Flexible spending accounts• Retirement plan with employer contribution• Professional development and continuing education support• Tuition reduction for students• Paid sick time• Generous paid time off, including holidays, personal days, and school breaks Salary Consideration: Faculty, TeacherSalaries for the position are based on education and years of classroom teaching experience. Starting salaries for full-time faculty and one to five years of experience; with a Bachelor's degree are from $43K or with a Master’s degree from $47.5K.Salaries for part-time employment are pro-rated based on employment percentage.
