TITLE:Principal Software Engineer
LOCATION:Washington, D.C. (and various unanticipated locations throughout the U.S.)
DUTIES:Requirements gathering, analyzing, designing, developing, testing, implementing, and supporting mission-critical Mainframe applications in a 24/7 environment. Collaborating with customers and team members to understand the business requirements to determine how to solve for those needs and leveraging technology solutions. Leading technical direction, decisions, and solutions, following a documented development methodology. Ensuring the design and application solutions meet security and quality standards along with all other nonfunctional requirements. Trouble-shooting application and system issues. Analyzing and monitoring applications to ensure functionality and performance meets all product and service level requirements. Analyzing of complex data tables and datasets to develop key business and technical reports. Ensuring documentation, flowcharts, layouts, diagrams, charts, code comments are understandable and consumable. Assisting in the development of user guides and training documentation.
REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field followed by seven (7) years of progressive, post-baccalaureate experience as a Principal Software Engineer or any occupation related to Software Development. Must also have at least seven (7) years of experience (1) developing and supporting online/batch systems implemented on IBM Mainframe systems, leveraging COBOL and DB2. Must also have five (5) years of experience: (2) Working in the Rail Transportation Industry; (3) Utilizing mainframe support utilities to include DB2 Spufi, QMF, File Manager, Fault Analyzer, and Screen Definition Facility (SDF) tools; (4) Providing on-call support; (5) Code promotion and versioning using change control tool CA Endevor; (6) Scheduling batch job using OPCA; and (7) Developing with Agile methodologies and techniques including SCRUM and SAFE frameworks. All experience may be acquired concurrently. Remote work permitted in accordance with standard company policy. All positions require pre-employment background check verification and a pre-employment drug screen.
SALARY:$165,173 - $179,300 per year
