RVG is on the lookout for a Head of Health, Safety and Property Facilities. You will be driving and supporting the management of health and safety of village facilities. The role requires travel to our villages.
You will create new H&S standards and policies, simple and effective H&S reporting and first-class H&S training. Above all, the role will be an advocate for H&S in the business, the go-to person for guidance and support and, drive an embedded H&S culture throughout the business and supply chain.
This role manages our property facilities management partners to ensure, in conjunction with the village teams, principally Facilities Managers, that villages are appropriately maintained to reduce lifecycle costs, reduce costly and inconvenient breakdowns and remove the hassle of property management from residents.
Key Responsibilities
Health and Safety
- To procure and manage specialist contractors delivering key H&S services; e.g. risk assessments, asbestos management, CDM assurance
- To provide day-to-day tactical H&S support for the whole business, including H&S advice, policy awareness, address training queries.
- To work collaboratively with the People team, Head of Care & Wellbeing, and others to help embed health, wellbeing, and mental health in the business.
- To provide support with the completion of risk assessments, inductions, and H&S process improvements as required.
H&S policy, standards, and reporting
- To lead and own the creation and updating of company H&S policy with the support of other teams.
- To be aware of upcoming changes in legislation and support the business in effectively adapting to those changes, e.g. building fire safety.
- To lead and manage the accreditation of ISO45001, and/or other H&S standards and manage future audits and inspections.
H&S Advocate
- To form part of the procurement process for new suppliers with H&S risk profiling and due diligence.
- To be a trusted business partner, by building and maintaining excellent collaborative relationships with all teams to embed H&S across the business.
- To proactively create and lead a health and safety training program with approved suppliers.
Facilities Management
- To coordinate all aspects of day-to-day property facilities management; including hard FM, basic repairs, grounds, and housekeeping.
- To own the relationship with key property facilities partners and ensure that they provide an outstanding service to our villages, including effective and timely delivery of services to agreed timescales, SLAs, scope, and quality.
- To work in conjunction with village teams, principally Facilities Managers, to ensure all facilities are safely and appropriately maintained to maximise the life and reduce breakdowns.
- To provide coordination to the village FM group, to drive forwards FM best practices, standardisation, SOPs, collaboration and continuous improvement. This includes Housekeeping Team Leaders and Head Gardeners.
What we are looking for in our successful candidate?
- Member of IOSH or other H&S organisation.
- Strong demonstrable H&S experience.
- Proven track record in the management of property facilities and facilities service partners.
- Track record of supplier contract management.
- Operational, development, and construction backgrounds.
- Experience with ISO/OHSAS policy, audit inspection programs
- Experience in dealing with regulators, including; inspections, enforcement notices, prosecutions, tribunals, and inquests
- Passionate about good design, safety, sustainability, and placemaking.
- Ability to coach and develop team members
