A Rough Layout Lead is responsible for looking after a small team of artists on their assigned sequence. They will report to the Rough Layout Supervisor providing support where needed. They will help guide the artists to deliver the sequence meeting the requirements of the director’s vision. They will also be required to do some shot work on their sequences, helping to set the benchmark for layout quality and visual style.
Key Responsibilities
- Create sequences of shots that convey the story, ensuring the vision of the Director and Layout Supervisor are resolved.
- Come up with creative solutions and ideas, as well as present different options for shots in their sequence.
- Train, mentor and motivate new artists who are placed on crew, supporting them both artistically and technically.
- Be up to date on new previs techniques and technology.
- Responsible for managing their team to complete their tasks in the set time to ensure sequences can be delivered on schedule, and to inform their supervisor if there are any problems preventing this from happening or if the team requires more work.
- Maintain a cut of their team’s sequence.
- Responsible for quality checking their team’s sequence ensuring that they are using the latest assets and shot setups; maintaining a consistent look across their artists' shots within the sequences they are working on.
- May be required to work on tests or pitches for upcoming films.
Required Experience
- 6+ years of experience in a Senior RLO/Previs Artist or RLO/Previs Lead role in feature film.
- Previous experience in a senior role on a minimum of 3 feature films and ideally have experience in a Lead role.
- Strong leadership skills and the ability to confidently lead a small team.
- Feature Animation experience is ideal.
- Expert knowledge of cinematography and a keen eye for shot composition.
- A good understanding of editing and storytelling.
- Strong knowledge of Maya.
