We're a team of independent thinkers who put quality, inclusion and integrity first. All around the world we bring a different experience to our clients. A better experience. One that delivers the expertise they need in a way that goes beyond. Personal, proactive, and agile. That's Grant Thornton.
Job Description:
Great minds. Nothing alike.
As an auditor in our national Value for Money (VfM) team, you'll be connecting with the issues facing local government (including the police and fire sector) and/or the NHS. You will provide independent commentary on clients' arrangements so they can confidently make the best decisions for the future.
Following the adoption of the National Audit Office's new VfM code of practice for local authority and NHS audits in 2020/21, we have created a new national VfM team. This team specializes in considering bodies' arrangements and reporting against the three specified reporting criteria:
- Financial sustainability: how the body plans and manages its resources to ensure it can continue to deliver its services
- Governance: how the body ensures that it makes informed decisions and properly manages its risks
- Improving economy, efficiency and effectiveness: how the body uses information about its costs and performance to improve the way it manages and delivers its services
Our team was established nearly two years ago, and we have developed our common goals and trusted methodology. We have a strong track record for delivering high-quality work which is valued by the wider audit practice and our clients. You will be joining us at a time when we are growing the capacity of our team and supporting the creation of our leaders of tomorrow.
There will be challenges along the way, but you'll be supported and able to meet each one with a solution. That's how you excel here.
A look into your future
Our three-year graduate programme is designed to take you on a journey from graduate to professionally qualified. Here's a glimpse of what you'll experience during your first three years:
- Hands-on experience in the different aspects of VfM audit, with a variety of public sector clients, comprising NHS bodies and local government bodies including police and fire.
- Exposure to our wide and varied portfolio of clients including significant local public bodies, such as Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust and the Metropolitan Police.
- Experience of working on all kinds of projects within a national portfolio and learning from our experienced VfM leads who have varied backgrounds.
- Responsibility and the opportunity to take ownership for interesting and challenging client work whilst being supported in overall project delivery.
- Development of a strong internal and external network to learn from.
- Working closely with colleagues to provide robust challenge and market-leading insights to help clients meet their regulatory needs and business objectives.
In this programme, you'll study towards becoming a Chartered Management Accountant (CIMA). You will be working with clients from day one while gaining a professional qualification. Your work will provide experience of public policy interventions and will support public sector bodies in achieving value for money in the use of public finances.
