PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
Reporting to the Chief Engineer, Signals & Communications, this position provides professional engineering expertise in the rehabilitation, design, troubleshooting and repair of electrical power systems used in the day-to-day operations of CPKC’s Signals & Communications equipment. Assist in making decisions regarding company expenditures, capital improvement programs, signal power and related components and material purchases. Evaluate subordinate manager's performance, salary increases, and skills needs. Evaluate and participate in senior management decisions affecting the overall organization, its vitality and operational reliability. Will work with all employees of CPKC, including signal maintainers, technicians, laborers, local, provincial and federal government groups, railroad material suppliers, consultants, contractors, adjoining landowners, railroad shippers and other railroad managers.
POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Assist in overseeing and directing the electrical power tunnel ventilation and other S&C facilities to maintain all required aspects assigned of the train control system
- Work directly with Field and Office personnel to coordinate the operation of the railroad and report directly to the Chief Engineer, S&C
- Providing mature leadership and supporting morale in a geographically widespread work force
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
- Assist in establishing and overseeing a departmental operating budget and a capital improvement program.
- Motivate, support, direct, give guidance, establish annual goals evaluate subordinate manager's performance.
- In collaboration with field forces, direct and coordinate the design, maintenance, repair, construction of electrical facilities that support the mission of the S&C department.
- Perform field inspections at affected work locations in Canada, the U.S. and Mexico, as required.
- Provide feedback and assist with electrical power aspects of other S&C departments’ projects as required.
- Review applications for utilities to construct power facilities and transmission lines in close proximity to CPKC network.

Management Conductor Program:
Becoming a qualified conductor or locomotive engineer is the single best way for a management employee to learn the business at CPKC. You may be required to obtain a certification or to maintain your current certification/qualification as a conductor or locomotive engineer.
