PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
The Specialist Income Tax will assist with various aspects of the tax function, including income tax planning initiatives, income tax accounting, income tax compliance and income tax audits. POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Assist with the implementation and reporting of US corporate tax strategies, including performing research and analysis of tax considerations, liaising with Treasury, and coordinating with Accounting and Legal
- Assist with the preparation of domestic compliance filings, including federal and state corporate income tax returns, tax information returns, gathering data and preparing documentation for the files
- Assist with preparation and analysis of relevant tax calculations including Sec. 163(j), Sec. 174, BEAT, CAMT, and other tax related calculations
- Assist with gathering supporting documentation for, and preparing responses to, government audit queries
- Assist with the preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual US tax provision calculations including return to provision calculations
- Assist with analyzing tax information and preparing internal management reporting
- Establish and maintain well-documented files to support tax compliance and planning initiatives
- Liaise with internal teams on ad hoc tax matters as required
- Continually review tax legislative changes for possible impact to CPKC
- Assist with integration of legacy CP and legacy KCS tax functions
- Prepare account reconciliations for income taxes and selected entities
- Ensure accounting and reporting process complies with applicable internal control (SOX) requirements
- Address and respond to queries from auditors and internal reviewers
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
- Undergraduate degree in accounting, or other relevant fields
- Prefer recognized accounting designation of CPA
- Minimum two to five years corporate tax experience required; some foreign affiliate tax experience is an asset
- Experience with the following considered an asset:
- OneSource Tax
- SAP
- Knowledge of US GAAP Accounting
