We are seeking Trustees for the Board of Vision Multi-Academy Trust, overseeing four primary schools in Bury, Greater Manchester. Volunteering on an academy trust board is highly rewarding, allowing you to impact young people’s life chances. Academy Trusts support schools in providing children with a better future. To ensure the best opportunities for young people, we need individuals with the right expertise to lead schools and hold executive teams accountable. Becoming a Trustee is a fantastic way to give back to your local community by strengthening education.
Trustee Responsibilities:
- Ensure clarity of vision, ethos, and strategic direction.
- Hold executive leaders accountable for educational performance and staff management.
- Oversee financial performance to ensure funds are used effectively for educational outcomes.
By volunteering as a Trustee, you will play a crucial role in strategic decision-making, helping the Trust achieve its goals and ensuring transparency and accountability.
Vision Multi Academy Trust was formed in 2017 and serves communities in Bury and Manchester. Vision MAT is a community of schools where children come first; we are proud of each child and aim for them to thrive and achieve their full potential in a supportive environment through excellent teaching and enrichment opportunities that support development. We want children to enjoy school and have positive, lasting experiences.
Our Trust has a cohesive identity while recognising each school’s uniqueness. Through collaboration, we ensure all schools benefit from each other’s strengths. We recruit, retain, and develop high-quality staff to deliver the best educational outcomes.

The Trust’s Requirements
Vision Multi-Academy Trust seeks up to three new Trustees with strategic senior leadership and business experience. Ideal candidates will have expertise in one or more of the following areas: Finance, Education (either primary, special, or secondary education), Legal, Estates, or SEND. Candidates should ideally reside in the region or understand the communities the Trust serves. Applications from all backgrounds and faiths are welcome, provided Trustees support the Trust’s ethos and values.
Vision MAT supports vulnerable children and young people, offering extensive support and educational opportunities for pupils with social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs who cannot thrive in mainstream settings. The Trust collaborates with schools, parents/carers, and professionals to promote educational and social inclusion across Bury.
Trustees receive onboarding support, including a Governance Handbook, training, and an experienced Trustee buddy. The Trust Board meets three times a year for two-hour sessions starting at 6:00 pm, with remote options available in exceptional cases.
Ideal candidates will also join one of the Trust’s committees:
- Finance, Audit, Risk, and Resources (FARR) meets three times a year at 10:00 am.
- HR and Standards meets three times a year at 9:00 am.
